Marine Veteran Shane Neal: Addiction, Fatherhood & Finding Recovery
3. november 2026 · 1h 0m
This November, ]We're Out of Time kicks off a monthlong tribute to America's veterans and military families in recognition of National Veterans and Military Families Month.
Our first guest is Shane Neal, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and recovery advocate who recently celebrated two years of sobriety.
In this deeply personal conversation with Richard Taite, Shane shares the challenges of transitioning from military to civilian life, losing the brotherhood and structure he depended on, and struggling with addiction while convincing himself his life was manageable.
He opens up about the painful realization that his addiction was damaging his relationship with his son, the moment he finally decided to seek treatment, and how recovery at 1 Method Centers and Carrara Treatment helped him begin rebuilding his life.
Today, Shane is finding purpose through faith, fitness, community and helping other veterans. He also shares why pride, shame and fear can prevent veterans from asking for help, and what he wants anyone struggling to know.
Asking for help isn't weakness. Recovery is possible, and no one has to face it alone.
