As I mentioned at the start of the episode, this was a bucket list interview for me. From the beginning of me starting my podcast, Dr. William Li was at the top of my list for people I held in the highest regard and wanted to interview! I have had the highest expectations for this interview and he over exceeded it by light years! He is one of the most educated, informed and brilliant people I have ever interviewed! We jump into the most detailed and well understood teachings of the gut microbiome. Dr. Li breaks down why it is so important and a real understanding of the function and massive role it has in our overall health. He then goes in depth on the gut brain axis and the implications it has on our well being. There is a deep discussion on the role the gut plays in immunity and then we get the best explanation I have yet to hear on what leaky gut truly is and how to actually treat it! The conversation shifts to heart health, where Dr. Li talks about the importance of nitric oxide and its role in keeping our heart healthy, and foods that great sources of nitric oxide! The conversation then shifts to a full blown break down of olive oil, how to pick the right olives and where to find the healthiest and best olive oils! We then discuss how foods are truly medicine and benefits of many different foods, with a deep dive into the health benefits of salmon. We close with Dr. Li discussing how to simplify nutrition and then an overview of his best selling books!
