Få musikalske samarbeid har blitt mer ikoniske enn Johnny Cash og June Carters. Deres duetter og magnetiske opptredener sjarmerte hele Amerika og store deler av resten av verden, og deres forhold skulle bli et av musikkhistoriens mest toneangivende. En kjærlighetshistorie som hentet fra et eventyr og som man senere skulle lage Hollywood-film av. Hun reddet livet hans flere ganger, han reddet nok henne også, sin måte. Han var en alkoholisert, pillemisbrukende fattiglus som så broren sin dø som tolvåring. Hun var en barne-countrystjerne, som levde hele livet i rampelyset.
