The Tour de France Femmes Begins: Wiebes Wins in Lausanne

The Tour de France Femmes is underway, and Ned Boulting and Lizzie Deignan are on the ground bringing you daily coverage the roadside.

The opening stage from Lausanne to Lausanne was set to be a sprint, but the race delivered plenty of drama before the finish. A series of attacks, a reduced peloton and a technical run into the final climb put the pressure on early, with some of the biggest names in the race forced to show their cards.

Lorena Wiebes proved she can do far more than just survive a tough finish, riding the final climb with the GC contenders before launching a brilliant sprint to take the first stage win and the first yellow jersey of the race.

Behind her, Demi Vollering claimed third place and four valuable bonus seconds, an early reminder that every second could matter in the fight for the overall title.
