On this Extra Hot Episode: A BLINK special with Jake Haendel, the man behind the podcast that Luisa reckoned and all of us became obsessed with.

Jake was a high-functioning heroin user working as a chef when he was diagnosed in 2017 with a rare and usually fatal brain condition. Given months to live, he gradually lost movement and speech and later became locked in, fully conscious. Doctors believed he was essentially brain dead, but he was conscious for all of it.

We talk to Jake about the parts Blink left out: the part addiction played, how he realised the severity of his condition, the panic and the strength of mind needed. Plus his account of what happened with his then-wife Ellen, the sperm collected while he couldn't consent, the eighteen months it took to get it back, and why he says he still isn't angry with her.
