The History of the Illuminati

How did a failed Bavarian order become history’s most pervasive conspiracy theory?

In 1776, a Bavarian law professor founded a secret order to fight religious censorship. A decade later it was completely extinct, smashed by royal decrees and internal betrayals. So why has the Illuminati been blamed for every major crisis since, from the French Revolution to the New World Order?

Historian Michael Taylor, author of 'Illuminati: The History of a Conspiracy Theory', joins us to contrast the grand conspiratorial myths with the messy, short-lived reality.
